A to Z Construction Contractors and Service Providers: O: Off Price Carpet, San Jose CA

For your next remodeling/construction project, Off Price Carpet in San Jose CA

The Off-Price Carpet Outlet in San Jose is a relatively new find for us. About a year ago I was doing remodeling construction on one of my own personal properties. A contractor we were working with, Jason Saul, recommended Off-Price Carpet Outlet and strongly recommended talking to the owner Stan for some carpeting that we needed in a detached bonus room. While I was contemplating that project, I was concurrently working on helping one of our clients who was buying a townhome for sale in San Jose (a fixer) with their pre move-in remodel. The carpet there was in atrocious condition, but our client was going to be unable to afford new carpet. So Stan at Off Price Carpet recommended to us a contractor for carpet cleaning & repair, Sam Ford, who worked wonders on that carpet. By the time I went into the showroom on San Carlos in San Jose CA I had already been talking to Stan and one of the salespeople, Josh. The showroom is not fancy, but what I like about this place is the opportunity to buy very inexpensive carpet for even large spaces — they have remnants but in big quantities. The selection varies & changes but always includes many neutral options. They carry higher end product, too, but it’s a fantastic gem for getting jobs done inexpensively.

We were selling a house in Palo Alto CA and it needed a new bathroom floor put in. Off Price Carpet came out, measured, and installed inexpensive neutral lineoleum very, very cheaply and without a hitch. Having the neutral carpet installed in the bonus room also went off smoothly, and for a song. Try them out and see what you think for your next remodeling construction project.

A to Z Construction Contractors and Service Providers: N: Pero Nenada, Dalmation Tile

Recommendation of a contractor for tile & remodeling construction projects

About 6 years ago I was making demi glace with some friends (a 2 day process that involved 25 pounds of veal bones) and we ended up scorching our formica backsplash. Rather than having the counters completely replaced, we ended up being referred to a contractor who specializes in tile who came in and worked artistic wonders. This contractor was Pero Nenada from Dalmation Tile. He installed mosaic tile over the formica and it looked absolutely beautiful. Even better than just the formica backsplash by itself.

After that point, I started referring Pero out to friends and real estate clients who were in the home buying process–one couple ended up buying a fixer and he helped them. He has a very artistic and creative side to his tile work. Also, he can do entire bathroom remodeling construction & has done so for several happy clients. In the last property that I bought personally (a house in San Jose), he did the kitchen backsplash tile, including a beautiful green onyx feature strip along with white subway tile. He also coordinated the granite installation. Everything went off without a hitch, quickly, and for a fair price.

Pero Nenada’s contact information is (408) 930-4850.

While on the subject of tile, my favorite place to look and get ideas is All Natural Stone in San Jose CA. It is a gorgeous showroom with every type of tile you can imagine, along with granite slabs, recycled glass countertops, etc. Even if you buy your tile from somewhere else, it’s worth a stop here first to get remodeling construction ideas. And, if something you see seems to expensive, ask the staff there what the alternatives are — I inquired about a tile that was $20 a square foot and they were able to sell me a similar product for $7 a square foot that was not a well known brand. The information for All Natural Stone is as follows: 2504 Seaboard Ave, San Jose, CA 95131, 408-544-9600, www.allnaturalstone.com.

For whatever remodeling project you need to find a contractor for, we are willing to pass along our recommendations for the Silicon Valley and San Jose CA areas. Any time you or a friend needs a contractor, either comment on this post or shoot us an email/call.

A to Z Construction Contractors and Service Providers: J: Jason Saul, Tri-Valley Construction

Jason goes by Jay, but hey we are trying to be official here. The great benefit to going with Jay for general remodeling construction is that he is willing to do anything from handyman items up to things a contractor would handle like demolition work, sheetrocking, electrical, small bathrooms and basic kitchens. Sometimes it’s hard to find a generalist who will do the smaller projects, but not so with Jay. Of course, he’s willing to take on larger as well. He practically remodeled my whole house that I recently bought in San Jose CA, so I have very good first-hand knowledge of his work. The remodeling construction work encompassed a bathroom, which was completely gutted & remodeled on a tight budget. We also did the kitchen, keeping the existing cabinets but adding an island, new countertops, all new appliances, lighting, electrical, and more. He helped out & went above and beyond to give us referrals to other remodeling construction contractors as well, like HPC painting who we love! We have also recommended him to home selling & home buying clients, who have been pleased and felt like the price they paid was very fair. His fees are beyond reasonable & we recommend his services — as is always the case, The Listing Look (and any associated Realtors) is not paid for these recommendations. Jay Saul’s contact number is 408-375-9222 and please let him know that Kelsey Lane sent you!

A to Z Construction Contractors and Service Providers: C: Adan Caballero, General Contractor

Cityscape Kitchen After

The Cityscape kitchen after Adan worked on it.

One of our absolute favorite general construction contractors right now is Adan Caballero. One of our clients buying a house actually helped us find him! Our client was moving into a fixer upper reo (bank owned property) and we coordinated the pre-move in remodel for them. We got 4 bids for the work and Adan Caballero’s bids were among the two lowest among the construction contractors. We found out he does a lot of work for Taco Bell and has a professional team that works with him. They swooped in, got the work done on time (including granite countertops in the bathroom & kitchen, new lighting, tilework, door hardware & a bunch of handyman-type tasks)…and there was no drama! What a refreshing process, to be working with him and his team of stellar construction contractors. Adan’s number is 408-394-0023. Make sure, as always, to tell them that the Kelsey Lane from the Listing Look  (Silicon Valley real estate blog) sent you.

(Update 7/29/10…We have continued to do several projects–like a home selling project in Sunnyvale CA– with Adan and his team & they are truly amazing. Can’t say enough good things!)

A to Z Construction Contractors and Service Providers: B: Bullnose Tile shop in San Jose CA

B: If you are a property rehab junkie like us, you might really get into driving around the area around Brokaw Avenue and Rogers in San Jose CA. There are tons of granite and tile shops at deeply discounted prices – and they will even discount further for certain construction contractors. One great shop we got turned on to by Nancy Luter, an avid supporter of our Silicon Valley realtor team is Bullnose Tile in San Jose CA. This place has a whole warehouse full of clearance tile plus special order types as well. The prices are phenomenal for the upscale look you get. Nancy used Bullnose Tile for her very high end bathroom remodel. When we went, we took a specific tile to match. They checked for us and even went across the street to their second warehouse and successfully matched the tile among their discontinued varieties. They are at 1783 Rogers Avenue in San Jose CA. 408-441-1221. And as is always the case, our blog entries about specific stores or construction contractors are not paid advertising. Just things we’ve found that we love!
